For people who choose gliding training at Cloud Elite this means not only good learning conditions, but also exceptional views and space for training and cross-country flights.
The site is well connected with the Wrocław metropolitan area, and given the plans to rebuild the A4 motorway and extend the S8 road, getting to the airfield will become even quicker and more convenient in the future.
Mirosławice airfield (German: Rosenborn) has its roots in the 1930s as a secret Luftwaffe base intended for pilot schools and equipped with rail infrastructure. After the war it was taken over by Polish aviation, and in 1994 it became the home of Aeroklub Dolnośląski, which operates there to this day, training pilots and organising flights.
The airfield has three grass runways, and thanks to Cloud Elite gliders have returned to this beautiful region.
We are fortunate, because the airfield is maintained to a standard most aviation centres in Poland would envy. The runways and parking areas look more like a golf course than a classic airfield apron.
People, the fleet and Cloud Elite’s first season
It is worth stressing that places are made by people. Most often they are enthusiasts whose commitment breaks down barriers, builds atmosphere and delivers what seems impossible to others.
The pace at which the Cloud Elite gliding school has grown already amazes the Polish aviation community and shows how much can be achieved in a short time.
Only nine months passed from the moment we notified the Civil Aviation Authority that we were starting our training activity.
We started modestly with flights on an SZD 50-3 Puchacz. It is, however, an example with a reinforced structure that allows advanced aerobatics. Compared with other Puchacz gliders flying in Poland and worldwide it can be considered almost new – in spring 2025 it had under 200 flight hours.
We were eagerly awaiting the arrival of further gliders, all the more so as these were to be completely new machines. We had to wait for the end of the AERO Friedrichshafen air show, where we proudly looked at our two gliders on the manufacturer’s stand. On the way back from the show, the Allstar crew dropped them off directly in Mirosławice.
The brand new gliders – the Junior and the Perkoz – from the Bielsko manufacturer Allstar, with zero flight hours and rich avionics, quickly delighted both local pilots and people taking scenic flights. The two-seat Perkoz, fitted with interchangeable wing tips with winglets, allows the span to be increased to 20 metres.
For us instructors the Perkoz is one of the most successful Polish two-seat gliders. It allows advanced aerobatics, including inverted figures, works excellently in basic and advanced training, and at the same time is a great machine for cross-country flying.
It is on gliders like these that Cloud Elite students can develop their skills from their first flights all the way to ambitious goals, such as earning distance diamonds towards the gold gliding badge with three diamonds.
The following months showed the strength of the centre and its potential. Soon we flew in the previously purchased high-performance Promyk, and two Juniors joined the fleet after major overhauls and repainting. The 2025 season was crowned by the purchase of a high-performance Jantar 2B glider with flaps and a 20.5 metre span.
We ended the 2025 season operating seven gliders and two tow planes: the Maule M7-235 and the iconic PZL-104 Wilga.
Gliding training, infrastructure and plans for 2026
We began training and as early as June the owner of the centre completed his gliding course and obtained his glider pilot licence. Five students joined the basic course.
Besides the daily routine we could watch the emotions that come with first solo flights. Every moment spent on the ground and in the air had its value, and the greatest joy came from the smiles of people taking to the air with us for the first time in their lives. From that perspective worries and everyday matters became as small as the buildings seen from above.
The growth of the fleet was matched by infrastructure. To start with, a container office arrived – fully equipped. We bought four new radios and eight parachutes. In December the assembly of a 540 square metre hangar began, and we plan to move in during spring 2026.
Together with Aeroklub Dolnośląski we organised an aviation picnic, which attracted a great deal of interest. Shortly afterwards we also held our own open days, with numerous attractions on the ground and flights over the picturesque Lower Silesian landscape.
2026 looks exceptionally promising. Thanks to the efforts of Adam Bisek, Mirosławice airfield will get a control tower with a professional AFIS system. It will be the first AFIS of this kind at a grass airfield in Poland.
Around April the operational altitude over the airfield is planned to be raised to 3,500 feet (currently 2,100-2,400 feet). Two more new gliders will join the fleet: a Junior and a Perkoz.
We plan to develop our training offer further, including training new gliding instructors, acquiring more tow planes and continuing the modernisation of the airfield infrastructure.
The Cloud Elite blog – life at the gliding school behind the scenes
As the Cloud Elite blog was created recently, we wanted to share in this first, more summary form what happened during the inaugural season of our gliding school.
In time we will regularly publish news from the centre, flight reports, student training stories and photo galleries from the ground and from the air, to show what everyday life at Cloud Elite looks like.
